Imagine mixing danger and the whole retro-futuristic post-apocalyptic theme of Fallout with the beauty of this mod. I think Bethesda should seriously consider it for their next game. But if they made the vanilla game this it would totally break cannon at this point.
Fallout's original world was built on the idea that the bomb killed everything and things got twisted or had a hard time growing. Resources are scarce cause the earth just is so radiated it's dead. Yes, we know it doesn't work like that IRL, but that is the canon they built Fallout on. It would be a huge disonance to suddenly change that. Way more so than anything Bethesda has done to change Fallout. It would not be the same world at all.
So much of the world is built on that and the story as well. I mean part of the whole world of Fallout is people struggle to survive cause it's hard to even grow food or have anything live in the world. After an atomic firestorm, nuclear winter kills nearly everything that's left on the surface. Radioactive rain and snow blanket the earth, and if the bombs are big enough the debris in the air could even block out the sun.
If anything the bigger question is how so many people survived. I think it's canonical that the bombs dropped weren't as large as the ones we have in our own world, because if they were, the explosion radius would be large enough to make the entire east coast look like the glowing sea. Fun fact: Nuclear fallout also kills all the decompositional bacteria in the environment. Ergo, unless you've died and your body was carrying the bacteria waiting to eat your rotting flesh, everything remains perfectly preserved.
Hence the cars that are rusting a non-organic process but otherwise intact, the dead trees that are still lying everywhere, etc. The Boston Commonwealth in looks exactly the same as it did 10 years after the Great War. Your body is carrying those bacteria, you'd have trouble digesting food without them.
That part still makes no sense. Unless the Great War caused a climate change that makes it hard for iron to corrode, the cars should still be pretty much gone after years. If you want a more relevant example, I invite you to look at pictures of the Chernobyl disaster, since that's where fallout seems to take it's inspiration. Have you played FO4? It's the most colorful and alive depiction of a dead wasteland that I've ever seen.
Fallout is not based on legitimate science and this is established by the developers. It's based around what they thought would happen in the 50s if full scale nuclear war were to erupt.
Since then science has made great strides in understanding how nature would reclaim the environments, and study was conducted that revealed that the planet would for the most part return to normal in only 40 years after nuclear war between America and Russia. It's important to remember it looks this way because of the series lore, not actual science. Although it is possible if we head to Florida to have a green environment because of a contaminated geck.
During the cold war they conducted a study about what would happen if both the Superpowers launched what would happen to the world. By their calculations everything would return to normal save the blasted areas in 40 years. Plant life would quickly readdapt to higher radiation, insect life would survive as well but would suffer deformities and fallout 4 resurrection mod download lifespans.
